Why Duplicate?

There are myriad other sources of information on these functions, but some of the terminology and explanations, even those maintained by the Microsoft community, are not entirely correct as they are targetted at a generalist community of users.

Whilst this body of work is to some degree a replication of the information available elsewhere, the purpose is to provide our students, alumni and subscribers with carefully curated information that assumes a precise terminology as taught in our courses, removing some of the ambiguity in more loosely curated resources.  Their primary purpose is in support of our online and printed materials which link to these articles extensively.

Reference Scope?

It is not our intention to document every function available in Excel.  Our focus is the 150 or so most commonly used in financial modelling and analysis.  We trust that if something more specialised is required, our approach to the function documentation will provide the clues and concepts for our users to refer to more general sources of documentation, and see through issues that may arise.

About Tags

At the bottom of most articles and lesson materials on this site, you will find tags that are designed to make finding related material easier.  There are tags for each function documented in the reference and used in our lessons.  Clicking that tag displays a list of articles in which a function is explained or used.  There are also tags for subject areas, clicking those tags will list reference articles, lessons and how-tos on that subject area.
